Sacramento offers some of the best shopping in north-central California. The city contains several major shopping centers and districts, as well as access to factory and premium outlets.
Some of Sacramento's most unique shopping can be found in the city's Old Sacramento district. This 28-acre historic landmark contains more than 100 unique, independently owned shops, most located in restored Victorian-era buildings. Its location along the Sacramento River allows you to see some of the city's best scenery as you explore the many clothing and jewelry boutiques, art galleries and other specialty retailers doing business in Old Sacramento.
From Old Sacramento, it is just a short walk to Westfield Downtown Plaza, Sacramento's premier open-air shopping and entertainment center. Downtown Plaza is a great place to buy clothing, shoes, home furnishings and other items at stores such as Macy's, Z Gallerie, and the Gap. Many of the restaurants in Downtown Plaza are open late, and the center also features a seven-screen movie theater.
The city's main indoor mall is Arden Fair, located close to downtown and the California State Capitol off of the Interstate 80 business loop. Arden Fair features the Nordstrom department store and over 160 other shops, including such major retailers as Ann Taylor, Forever 21, Pottery Barn and Sephora. The center is also a popular destination for dining, as more than 60 restaurants and cafes are located in and around Arden Fair. Other shopping centers in and near Sacramento include the Pavilions, specializing in high-end fashions, and the Nimbus Winery Mall in Folsom.
Those looking for discounts on high-end name-brand merchandise should visit the Folsom Premium Outlets in the nearby town of Folsom. Major retailers such as Banana Republic, Eddie Bauer, Coach and Saks Fifth Avenue and many others have outlets in Folsom that sell past-season and discounted merchandise, often at substantial savings. The Folsom Premium Outlets are easily accessed from Sacramento, and are located off of Highway 50 at the Folsom Boulevard exit.
